Last Sunday we helped stage the launch of local author, Sita Brahmachari’s new book ‘Jasmine Skies’. The store was transformed into a Kolkata Sari shop with colours, sounds, tastes and smells to rival the real thing. We’d like to thank all who came along and to wish Sita the best of luck with what looks set to be another very successful story. More on Sita, her book and the launch can be found here.

Happy New Year. We hope you all had a tremendous Christmas and New Year – and that the return to work hasn’t come as too much of a shock. Everything has returned to normal at Owen’s after the frantic festive period, opening hours are as they were and our meat counter – which has looked incredibly sorry for itself since Christmas – is now fully stocked.

North London Hospice helps people to live with a potentially life-limiting illness providing emotional, spiritual and practical support to them, their families, friends and carers.

Their vision is that everyone living in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey should receive the specialist palliative care (including practical, spiritual and emotional support) that they require to minimise their symptoms, maximise their quality of life and to live and die with dignity in the surroundings of their choice. They also want patients’ relatives, friends and carers to have the support they need to cope with any difficulties arising from the illness and to recover and rebuild their lives afterwards.

There is no charge for any of these services. The Hospice is a registered charity and we receive only a small proportion of our funding from the NHS. They rely on donations and legacies to help raise the £6 million every year that is needed for our care to continue.

It’s our first birthday! We would like to extend an enormous thank you to all who have supported us over the past year. We are celebrating at the shop all weekend so make sure you come in and see us.

This Friday marks our first birthday and we would like as many of you as possible to come and help us celebrate the occasion in store. Celebrations will take place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th. We will have various games to play, tastings, demonstrations and a little light entertainment in store (schedule to follow on Wednesday). If you live in the area you will probably be receiving a special flyer through your door which will give you a little weekend treat of 10% off as well. All in all it will be a light-hearted and fun day so we really hope you can come and join us at some stage.

If you wish to help us celebrate out of hours you are more than welcome to come along to our pre-Christmas cheese and wine evening on the 11th. You will be able to sample our range of artisan cheese along with our organic wine – hopefully aiding you in making your mind up for the Christmas period. Tasting starts when the store shuts at 7.30pm.

It’s that time of year again, Christmas is round the corner and preparations are underway. Once again we are selling the ever-popular Kelly Bronze turkeys – and we are ready to begin taking orders. All orders should be placed in store where we have size/portion guides – as well as an abundance of advice. We should have plenty of turkeys to go round, but if you want to ensure one of the award winning birds for your Christmas dinner then we advise ordering as early as possible.
